My name is Marisa Spevak. I've marched Colts in 2011, Phantom Regiment in 2012 - 2013 and I am currently playing marimba for the Blue Devils in the 2014 season :) I play in the front ensemble and I love band. Teaching band. Writing for band. Playing band. Watching band. Music is how I stay happy.

Amazingly written drill is basically what I live for.

It’s so damn clean. Perfectly written. Perfectly executed.

when playing with only 2 mallets, should your hand/ wrist be in a straight line with your arm? Whenever I play, I seem to like have my wrist bent outwards a little, and putting my hand in a line with my arm makes the mallets go almost horizontal, making it difficult to play... (Sorry, I'm assuming you get a lot of questions like this)

You can have a slight bend in them, it’s okay! It’s supposed to feel very natural. Hold you mallets down by your side with your arms totally relaxed, and then bring them up to the keyboard. That should be about how it should look!

Just by this picture, obviously this guy is a slightly above average role model. Being “Aaron’s little sister” isn’t so bad when I think about how truly ridiculous and talented you are. Even though you’re far away today, I want you to have the best birthday of your life. Oh, and I may have gotten you a small gift so you can look forward to that when you fly home :) Thank you for being a brother I can laugh till I cry with, DRUM with, and enjoy a good game of hockey with (even still while on separate continents). Can’t wait to make you proud this summer, and I’m counting down the days until we reunite! #powersiblings

Thank you! Also (lol) so should mallets 1 and 4 rest closer to the knuckles on your palm, or the in the knuckles in the middle of your finger?

Mine rest a taaad closer to the knuckle on my middle finger :)

Should you still bring the music to the rehearsals? Also, what size should the intervals be between 2 mallets in 1 hand if you're only playing notes with mallets 2 and 3?

Oh yes, always have your music with you! All the way up to finals day. And the standard interval is about a fifth :)
